The traumatic event, the unprocessed memory, the object or image that displaces from physical reality; this work is informed by the theories of breath work in the widely controversial rebirthing process for adopted children. As an adult child of the foster care system, Dedman uses this ritual as fodder to invision somatic existential chaos.

In an attempt to recapture their own identity, Dedman chose to relinquish the control of the lens and of perfectionist self-representation to break down trust barriers. Breathing life into the object, a quilt made by their great grandmother for Dedman as a baby, the artist performs for the camera the internal headspace of the time warp of past and present.
