Languish: in the shadows of the avalanche (2012) is a series of portraits that were created after the artist realized their closest friends all had something in common... They survived Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA).
This series begs to reflect trauma through a lens in a similar fashion to the magnetization that brought each friendship together.
The confession of abuse often doesn't happen until later in life, once the survivor has the chance to reflect upon its affect on their livelihood. It takes being outside of the triggering setting/environment to begin to dig to understand the iceberg that the trauma created. Having a support system with familiar warmth and trust where such things can be discussed is crucial to the development of survivors.
The work is a window into our lives and shared experience in the shadows of the avalanche.
